Introducing God to Little Ollie

A baby praying

My son Ollie will be one year old next month, he hardly talks clearly yet, but I think that’s understandable. He’s very active and quick in learning. My son is very independent and he is not afraid of trying new things. He hardly has tantrums and we don’t have problems feeding him either.  Right now, he’s on the process of trying to stand up and walk on his own without any help from us. He can utter a few words already but most are still babyish, we want him to learn the right words, so we don’t do  gibberish baby talk. What we do instead  is speak to him clearly, associated with actions and some pictures.  That way he’s learning very fast, that some parents are quite impressed.  They say that most of their kids learned to talk that way after their first birthdays. I am so proud of Ollie.  I believe that my son is a very strong, healthy, and  a very intelligent kid. Despite his young age, I know he understands what’s going on. That’s why, the very first thing that Liv and I taught him was how to pray. We make it a point that before sending him to bed, we tell him bible stories, sing some kiddie  praise songs, and pray. Actually, Liv has been doing it ever since our baby was still on her womb. We also bring him to church every Sabbath.

It amazes me to see how my son has been absorbing all that we’ve been teaching him. There was one time that the three of us went shopping, and got really tired. So, when we got home, we gave him a warm bath then we tried to lull him to sleep. No matter what we do, he wouldn’t fall asleep that Liv was starting to get irritated.  So, she asked me to take care of Ollie. Then I asked my son, “what’s wrong baby, don’t you wanna go to sleep yet? You look pretty tired…” My innocent little boy said, “No pwey papa? “(no pray papa).  I couldn’t describe the happiness I felt and hugged my son. And so we said a little prayer, and then I lulled him to sleep.

I thank God for such a wonderful son… It’s just a proof that there’s no such thing as kids being too young to be taught about God. Teaching kids about God is much easier than teaching adults.

Teach him the way he should go, when he grow up, he will never depart from it.
