How to tell if your kid is anemic?

It is quite alarming that there is a current rate of 30 percent Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) among our little preschooler whose age range is from 2 to 5 years, and 57 percent among infants. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is caused by low iron and vitamin C in the diet.
Symptoms usually include paleness of the skin, inner lower lip, nail beds, palm, and the inner mucus membrane lining the inner surface of the eyelid. If you noticed during check-up, doctors usually examine the eyes of either kids or adult.
How to tell if your kid is Anemic? Try to notice the symptoms and changes in your kid. Anemic individuals usually suffer from feeling weak and tired, dizzy, and having poor physical and mental growth and development. If your little one is already going to school, always follow up on his/her whereabouts and have your kid evaluated to see how slow or rapid his mental, emotional, and physical growth is. Children with IDA show poor school performance, irritability, and lack of concentration.
To counter Iron deficiency anemia (IDA), the World Health Organization and the UNICEF recommend that children from 2 to 5 years old should be given 2mg of Iron ferrous sulfate per kilogram of body weight daily.
Good examples of affordable iron-rich food sources include red mung bean, seafood, seaweed, Chinese celery, dried saffron flowers, slender or spineless amaranth, dried banana blossoms, and jute leaves. For better reference you may consult a nutritionist. And for the infants, consult the pediatrician for the necessary vitamins and recommended diet. Combat Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) even before it happens. Feed your kids healthy food. With proper diet, right amount of sleep and vitamins, they are protected.
Don’t compromise your kid’s health, physical and mental development. Having IDa also affects one’s emotional growth due to lack of self-steem caused by poor performance.

Anemia is often times overlooked by parent. I myself never thought about it until my baby was diagnose with IDA. She was only 1 month when we found out. Her pedia initially thought it was a heart problem but further test shows it was anemia. Good thing we found out early and now she’s ok.
