Running Windows 7 RC

I recently downloaded windows 7, the free release candidate version provided by microsoft.com, in fairness to this version, although it has some flaws, it’s more of a better and faster running version of windows vista. With the same aero glassy graphical user interface, but with many other functions. However, if your computer meets only the basic requirements, or do not meet the requirements, you may not experience the real power of windows 7.

The download took more than a couple of hours for me, but the speed and download time varies, depending on the current speed that you have. It could take less that a couple of hours if you have 3 mbps connection and up, and probably 3 hours or more if you have a less than 2 mbps connection.

The installation time amazed me, it only took a few minutes, and windows 7 was up and running. So, I expect that when the full version is released, with the OS media, installation is a breeze. One thing that I’d like to give MS a credit. Because installation of operating systems used to take such a long time, but with the current development, I guess they are going the right direction this time. I must say, Windows 7 is a fast working, good looking, and an improved OS.

MS and other Original Equipment Manufacturers just have to work on updating and having supported drivers. I am expecting a release of multitude of hotfixes soon, and hopefully it would cover up all the other hardware and software issues.  I want to see windows 7 develop until they release the full version. And so far, I’m ok with it, I am still lookiong forward to more though.

The song Leaving on a jet plane is now playing in my head. Just hearing of the great news makes me want to pack my bag and book on the next flight to Bangkok or Singapore to meet up with friends, or simply enjoy some time away, leave all the chaotic life and crazy things behind. I’m sure all those adventurous  and nomadic people like me are already going crazy over the big sale!

Astro Boy Shirt

astroboy vintageYeah! That’s Astro Boy, the old school japanese animated version. He is one of my favorite characters. I designed this Astro Boy vintage shirt myself too. What do you think about it?

When we were young, my uncle bought me and my cousins Astro boy merchandise, from shoes, school bags, notebooks with Astro boy picture covers, caps and shirts. For me and my cousins, he is one of the coolest, just like Voltes 5, Gundam and transformers. Even now that I am an adult, I am still an Astro boy fan. I like his character because even if he is an Aritificial Intelligence robot, he has a heart, and that’s what makes him different. Sometimes he is even more human than the real humans, who would rather do crimes in the society.

Finally, Astroboy is coming to the big screen soon. I can’t wait to watch the movie. Although the Astro boy in the movie looks a bit different from the original character, I still like it because it is still Astro boy.

Free Multiplayer Billiards Game

I just finished playing this free to sign-up multiplayer billiards game online at multiplayer games,8c1.net.http://www.8c1.net.

I invited a friend to sign-up. We tried to figure it out at first.  To test if it works, I played a match with the computer first and then we finally got to figure out how to play against each other. We played a few rounds of 8 ball game for a bit and it was fun.

The billiards table simulates a real one and the interface is pretty simple, but I like it that way.  However if it is your first time you may get a little confused on how to control it, but after a few hits you will finally get to control the  game, the strength of your strikes and hit the ball right.

For a free game, it is very good. You  can talk to the people inside the room through chat too, which is cool. If you want to spend some time with your online friends, you can chat while playing billiards and have fun.

Firefox vs Internet Explorer 8

I am currently trying to make use of  Internet Explorer version 8,  after removing IE 7 from the windows components, and just letting it sleep there, dormant and hiding, as I’ve never wanted to even consider using it after such a bad experience in using Intenet Explorer.

But just recently, after updating my windows operating system to Windows 7, I felt that perhaps it’s time to give IE a chance, and I must say, the current version may not be as impressive as my Safari browser, or as fast, sleek, compact, and promising as google chrome, at least it is so much better than the previous versions.

I beg to disagree mozilla saying “IE is so 2006,”  coz honestly, it’s currently working like a gem, and it’s so much faster than the buggy current version of Firefox. I am just hoping that it doesn’t have as much security flaws as the previous versions, because I am on the verge of giving up on firefox for the same reason. I want to use IE8 instead of the bleeding firefox.

In fairness to the latter, it was the best browser last year and the previous. If only they continued to be, but recently, firefox sux! If firefox  didn’t have the plugins I need, I would’ve removed it a long time ago, most especially with the frequent crashes, after installing the updates.

I hope IE 8 continues to work fine, otherwise, I will have to hide it in the closet again, and just use chrome and safari.

Change of Webhosting

Recently, I have been experiencing some problems and frequent downtimes with my website hosting provider. I am thinking that maybe it is time to say goodbye and find a new website hosting provider after my contract expires. It is quite sad because they used to be the best, so far. I have transferred from one webhosting site to another, until I landed with them. I have always been satisfied with the current web site hosting company that I have bought my account from, but after all their upgrades, which seemed more like downgrades to me, things weren’t how they used to be.

Right now, I am trying to view and read webhosting ratings and reviews at webhostinggeeks.com, they are a great webhosting wiki for everyone interested in finding a webhosting. Hopefully I would get to decide which webhosting company could provide me with the best service,  before the time is up for renewing my current hosting.

Currently, immotion and justhost are bagging competing for the top position in their top ten webhosting for 2009 chart. The two web site hosting providers vary in price. The latter provides free domains forever, unlimited domains hosting and some marketing bonus for a very amazing value of 3.95/mo, while immotion promises top technical support and choice of data centers, for more than twice the price.

The ratings are pretty close, that it’s making it hard for me to decide. Should I go for the cheaper one? I’m just glad that there’s webhostinggeeks.com to provide all the info I need. I guess I should read some more reviews. Ciao for now!

How well does your dad know you?

How well does your dad know you? Does your dad have you all figured out — or does he have you all wrong?

Those questions caught my attention and so I’ve decided to take the quiz and here is what I got for the result:

Your Dad Has You All Wrong!

“Sometimes dads and kids have trouble communicating. Is your dad too busy with his own life to pay attention to what’s going on in yours? Or do you value your privacy so much that you shut him out on purpose? Whatever the reason, it seems like your dad’s impression of you is way off base. If you want to give him a sense of what you’re really like, try opening up a bit. Tell him about your day, and ask about his. Right now, your life is a mystery to your dad — and his life is probably a mystery to you — but that can change anytime.”

Oh well, he just really got me all wrong and I don’t think it will ever change, unless otherwise I surrender to his will, which is the complete opposite of what I really want in life. Some things never change, and I guess my relationship with my dad is just one of them.

Scents and Senses

Scent and senses. Scents stimulates your senses. If you have noticed, scents widely affect our senses and emotions. When we smell something nice, like the lightest scent of your favorite cologne for instance, you immediately have this feeling of warmth and familiarity. It even brings back memories or thoughts that you have unknowingly associated that certain scent with. Just like how the smell of a certain food reminds you of home.

Odorprinting is the natural mechanism in both animals and humans wherein you are able to identify a certain individual based on their unique “signature” scent. This ability is usually used by animals to haunt their food, or to identify certain people or chemicals. Ever wondered how sniffing dogs find those criminals, and the drugs,  or even the bombs planted. Humans aren’t using this ability as much as animals do, but still we have this thing for scents.

Sometimes you even get surprised how scents remind you people, like how  your cappuccino cologne reminds you of having coffee with your friends, or  the sweet smell of a women’s perfume reminds you of your mom, and it makes you feel safe. Or how the strong scent of a musk reminds you of your strict dad or mentor, and makes you feel nervous at times.

Scents, senses, emotions….

Be an Entrepreneur Not an Employee

I remember a successful businessman friend saying, if you want to help improve the country’s economy, while helping other people achieve their dreams and financial stability, be an entrepreneur not an employee.

To quote what he exactly said, “Students are taught to do well in school so they can get a good job. I think kids should study so they can start their own business. This is good for their experience and earnings, and will also create jobs in the country.”

Make calculated risks and never stop learning. Don’t be scared of taking risks. Leaving your current basic paying job might be the first step towards a better tomorrow. Having a small capital to start with is alright, that is how big businesses started off. It means you will be managing the business and hands on in every step of the way. Doing this, you gain experience, and it helps you learn, at the same time it helps you formulate new ideas and marketing strategies.

Read books, and if possible find someone who can be your mentor. Lastly, never give up too easily when things don’t work as planned, rather improvise, innovate, and stick to your goal, which is achieving your dreams. Anyway, when you become successful, you can just sit back and relax, maybe travel with your friends and enjoy watching Las Vegas Shows or whatever kind of fun you prefer. It’s all a matter of having a goal and achieving it.

Simple Set-up for Small Offices

If you have a business and plans to set-up a small office that requires only a few staff, you don’t have to rent a big space that costs a lot. A smal office space will do, however you have to consider every little thing that you put into your valuable space.

Office Furniture like the one shown in the picture would be a good solution. Aside from the obvious  fact that it helps in saving space, it also brings your employees closer to each other, and they are easier to monitor and manage, thus increasing productivity while promoting camaraderie among your people. A set-up like this one makes it easy for each one of them to do brainstorming, while having that sense of privacy at the same time.

You can have your other productivity tools and furniture like cabinets attached to the sides or the walls, giving you more space to move around.  A couch or office chairs for the waiting visitors in one of the corners, then you can have your own L shaped table in one of the corners of the room,  with a couple of  chairs for the clients that you will entertain, and that’s it! Simple, costs less, and productive.
